| 7-27-07 drumsforu.com 1. How long have you been playing bass guitar? Aden I have been playing bass now for 20 years. drumsforu.com 2. What got you started? Aden Started playing trombone in 6th grade, guitar in 8th grade and then switched to bass in high school. The jazz band needed a bass player and also, I wanted to impress a girl who loved John Taylor from Duran Duran. I ended up marrying her, I guess it worked! drumsforu.com 3. Did you play in school? Aden I started with trombone in 6th grade and started playing bass in 9th grade. I switched to bass as my primary instrument my sophomore year in college and never looked back. I think school music programs are super important to young musicians. You develop an incredible knowledge of music theory and learn how to work well with other musicians; invaluable lessons to learn at an early age. drumsforu.com 4. What lead you to where you are now? A brief history. Aden I took to bass quickly because I had the coordination down from playing guitar and could read music well from playing trombone. I started playing musicals because of my reading ability and then started playing jazz, rock and country with many different bands. My goal was to play every different style of music I could and make the musicians that I looked up to my pears. I had the opportunity to play with many of the musicians I looked up to and one of the most important was sax player/vocalist Johnny Reno. He really taught me how to take it to the next level professionally. Bands that I have spent some time with are Tropix, Brad Thompson & the Undulating Band, Fletcher, Johnny Reno & the Lounge Kings, Max Stalling and now Miranda Lambert. drumsforu.com 5. You have worked with many drummers throughout your career. What do you look for in a drummer & why? Aden I have been extremely fortunate to work with some world class drummers during my career. I look for a drummer that grooves. I don't care about chops or speed, I want to lock in with a good groove player. Now don't get me wrong. I love to play technical stuff, but it still has to have a pocket. drumsforu.com 6. Could you describe the performing relationship between a drummer & bass player and describe the role the drummer & bass player have in a band? Aden I believe the relationship between a drummer & bass player should be about give take, listening. Listen to each other and do what is best for the song. If there is a vocalist, don't cover them up, support them. If it is an instrumental where you are featured, then step out. Always play what is best for the song. This is what the rhythm section should do. drumsforu.com 7. What kind(s) of bass guitars to you play? Aden Currently I am playing basses built by Glendale Guitars out of Arlington, TX. These instruments are basically custom Fender P-bass style instruments, but made to custom specs. I have a 4 string Glendale Tele bass and an awesome 3 string Glendale Tele bass tuned E A D that has become my main instrument. This is my answer to all the 6 string players! I also own a lot of other instruments; assorted Fenders, Gibsons and the sort. I also have a great old German upright bass that is my main acoustic. drumsforu.com 8. Your advice to an inspiring drummer? Aden Play for the groove/pocket and listen to as much music as possible. Listening is where it is at. Also, stay open minded and play all styles of music. There is no such thing as bad music, only music played badly. drumsforu.com 9. In reference to your playing career is there anything you would change or do over again? Aden I have been the most blessed musician I know. I would not change a thing. 10. Would you like to add to or make any additional comments? What's on your mind these days?
